Transcription: I do hereby certify that I have thoroughly examined Miss Emily A. Winchester and believe she is qualified in regard to moral character learning and ability to teach a common school in this town for one year Richford, Apr 19th 1859

Emily Ann Winchester Lane was born 1843, and she married Davis Ransleer Lane ( 1832 - 1909). They lived in Wisconsin and Michigan; One of their children, Anna E. Lane married Herbert Hammond. Anna and Herbert's daughter was Emily Janet Hammond. Janet married Albert Rohrabacher, whose great grandfather was one of the early settlers of Howell, Michigan in 1836. Janet was born near Lansing, Michigan in 1913, became a licensed practical nurse, and was interested in genealogy at a young age. Janet was a longtime member of the Philip Livingston Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Howell, Michigan, and a co-founder of the Livingston County Historical Society and the Livingston County Genealogical Society, Michigan. She was also an author of the "Bicentennial History of Howell, served on the Howell Carnegie DIstrict Library Archives Board and a volunteer at the Archives for many years. In 1998, she received the prestigious Lucy Mary Kellogg Award, from the Michigan Genealogical Council. Janet was also instrumental in the Annual Davis Lane & Emily Winchester Lane Family Reunions. It is believed that Janet donated this record of Emily Winchester's teaching certificate. Emily Janet Hammond Rohrabacher died in 2016.

Joanne Young, Board of Education member, Howell, Michigan
Joanne Young was elected a member of the Howell Board of Education in 1977. Young was a member of the Board during the 1980 decision to introduce sex education into the curriculum of Howell Schools. She was also a member during the 1983 teacher strike in Howell, and was involved in the decision to formally dismiss the teachers. Young did not run for re-election in 1986, ending her 10 year run as a member.
Young was also involved with the local Girl Scouts, and served on the Huron Valley Girl Scout Council.
She was born August 19, 1935, and died October 9th, 1999. She was married to Jim Young, Mayor of Howell from 1975-1985.
